Welcome to the Hereford MCJROTC.
My name is Major Johnny Journey. I am the Senior Marine Instructor for the Hereford High School MCJROTC program. I served 26 years in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining the Hereford team. I am here to help develop the future leaders of our community, state and nation.
WHAT WE ARE:
A student leadership organization. We are focused on the development of Leadership, Character and Citizenship. Through the study of the leadership traits and principles we develop future leaders within our community. Cadets gain real world experience leading others, managing cadet records, managing supply inventories, planning unit events, organizing teams and preparing for inspections. These all provide great accomplishments to list on college applications, job applications and resumes.
A competitive team. Our competitive teams provide another opportunity for our cadets to stand out amongst their peers. We offer competitive Color Guard, Exhibition Drill and Air Rifle teams. Several of our annual awards offer our students the opportunity to claim scholarships for college.
A community service organization. Last year our unit documented over 1600 hours of community service. We helped sort 6,800 pounds of food at our local food bank. We raised over $5000 for the Salvation Army, and collected and distributed over 300 toys within our community at Christmas.
WHAT WE ARE NOT:
We are not recruiters. While some of our cadets do go on to join the military after high school that is not our focus. Our cadets do not incur any type of military obligation for participating in our program.
We are not a boot camp style correctional program. Our program runs on the abilities of students who want to learn the skills necessary to meet the challenges of life, develop their leadership potential and become productive members of our community.
