They won fun prizes including passes to Urban Air, Escape Room, and Black Light Golf—just in time for Spring Break! We will continue weekly drawings for students with perfect attendance. A big thank you to our businesses for the generous donations that made these prizes possible! Go Herd! 🐮

Over the past few weeks, Hereford High School has experienced several infrastructure issues related to aging pipes and plumbing systems. The photos shared here represent just a small number of the issues staff have had to address recently.
Recently, a section of wall in the teacher’s lounge had to be removed after a pipe burst and water was discovered running behind the wall. When the wall was opened, crews found older pipes that are in need of replacement. Because this pipe was located in an interior wall, water had to be shut off to students toward the end of the school day while repairs were addressed. The leak also caused damage to the surrounding area.
Another issue occurred recently when water began coming through the floor of a downstairs office, which was traced back to collapsing pipes underneath the building.
In addition to these incidents, ongoing plumbing challenges continue to surface. About two weeks ago before school started, Mrs. Alonzo arrived at 7:00 a.m. to find toilets overflowing with water and sewage. Situations like this have become increasingly common as the plumbing system continues to age.
Just today, water was coming back up through toilets in the girls’ English bathroom when they were flushed, and in another part of the building, water was backing up into sinks.
Our district plumbers have done a tremendous job responding quickly and maintaining the system as best as possible. While they continue to address issues as they arise, many of the problems being encountered are related to aging infrastructure beneath the building.
As we continue sharing information with our community, we want to provide a transparent look at some of the facility challenges our staff and students are experiencing.
